Bill Olafson remembered for philanthropy and restaurant success

Restaurateur and philanthropist Bill Olafson has passed away at the age of 81. Olafson, who operated Earl’s Restaurant in Red Deer since 1984 and another location in Lethbridge with his wife Rhonda, was widely recognized for his creative approach to community fundraising.

His philanthropic efforts included establishing the ‘Dirty Dozen’ to support mental health and organizing significant donations for the SPCA. One of his major achievements was leading a massive renovation of Camp Alexo near Nordegg in 2014, which mobilized 315 volunteers to build various facilities including bunkhouses and an archery centre. Olafson was noted by peers for his commitment to making a tangible difference within the Red Deer community.
