Bill Self returns for 34th season as Kansas basketball coach

Kansas head coach Bill Self is returning for his 34th season following a period of reflection regarding retirement. Despite recent health challenges, including heart procedures and recovery from knee-replacement surgery, Self confirmed he is prepared for the upcoming season.

The Jayhawks opened their preseason with an 18-point exhibition victory over Division II opponent Pittsburg State. Following the game, Self noted that while the team showed athleticism, there is significant room for improvement regarding shooting and free-throw accuracy.

Newcomer Christian Reeves, a transfer from Charleston, stood out in his debut. The 7-foot center recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, including four blocks, in just 12 minutes of play. Reeves is returning to action after recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
