Bill T. Jones and Raja Feather Kelly debut solo at Vienna ImPulsTanz festival

Two generations of dance converged for the world premiere of “The (a) Point Between 2 (or more) Confessions” at the ImPulsTanz festival in Vienna. Veteran New York choreographer Bill T. Jones, 74, wrote the solo for the younger Raja Feather Kelly, about 35, who leads the New Brooklyn Theatre and represents a newer queer perspective.

The performance took place on a stark stage in the Akademietheater, dominated by a single chair. Over a 50‑minute solo, Kelly moved through a blend of sport, disco, voguing and introspection, interweaving anecdotes and reflections on themes such as God, sex, love and parental relationships. The work embodies both the activist legacy of Jones—known for his HIV‑era advocacy—and the fresh artistic impulse of Kelly, highlighting a mentorship turned partnership.

The piece is part of the annual ImPulsTanz festival, which showcases innovative contemporary dance in Austria’s capital.
