Billa employee faces trial for unauthorized supermarket discounts

A 23-year-old former cashier at a Billa supermarket in Upper Austria is facing trial for breach of trust after providing unauthorized discounts to customers. According to the Linz Public Prosecutor's Office, the individual allegedly granted random price reductions of up to 50 percent between early 2025 and November 2025.

The total financial loss reported by the Rewe subsidiary, Billa, amounts to 25,696 euros over an eleven-month period. The prosecution suggests the employee's motive was to gain popularity among customers while navigating a difficult psychological situation. Under Austrian law, intentionally causing financial damage to an employer constitutes a criminal offense.
