Billal Miah missing from Arezzo care facility, search underway
Billal Miah, a 45‑year‑old man of Bangladeshi origin, was convicted in 2020 of killing his 4‑year‑old daughter in Levane (Arezzo) and injuring his older son. He was acquitted in February 2022 on grounds of incapacity to understand his actions and placed under a ten‑year security measure, later transferred to a residential care home for disabled persons in Castiglion Fiorentino under supervised liberty.
In the night of 2–3 August 2026 he disappeared from the facility. Local authorities, including the Carabinieri, the fire brigade, the police of Castiglion Fiorentino and volunteer civil‑protection groups, launched a coordinated search covering the Valdichiana and Valdarno areas. The operation employs drones, canine units and a Drago helicopter. The Prefecture of Arezzo has circulated his photograph to the public and urged anyone with information to call 112. The search has so far yielded no trace. The disappearance was reported to the support administrator, the lawyer Nicola Gambino of the Arezzo bar, and other competent authorities. A hearing on his social dangerousness is scheduled for September.
