Billie Piper addresses Doctor Who future and regeneration rumors

Actress Billie Piper has addressed speculation regarding her future in the Doctor Who franchise following a recent cliffhanger in which Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor regenerated into her character. Speaking at the ‘For the Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi’ event in London, Piper clarified that she is not currently playing the Doctor, stating, “I am not the next Doctor. I am Rose Tyler in hiatus.”

The comments come amid uncertainty for the long-running series. Showrunner Russell T Davies previously announced he would be stepping away from the show, and a planned Christmas special for 2026 has been canceled. The production is expected to go out to competitive tender by the end of the year, allowing different companies to bid for the rights to produce the series.

Piper urged fans to remain patient during this transition, noting that the show has had a “rough time lately” and suggesting that the franchise needs space and time to evolve.
