Billings, Montana, shooting and fire leave multiple dead

A shooting and subsequent house fire on White Star Circle in Billings, Montana, resulted in multiple fatalities, including several adults and children. Authorities have characterized the incident as a family disturbance.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene on Sunday evening around 6:00 PM. Billings Fire Chief Matt Hoppel reported that firefighters encountered gunfire upon arrival, which delayed initial fire suppression efforts. The lack of fire hydrants in the immediate area further complicated the response, forcing crews to transport water via trucks. While the home was completely consumed by flames, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring properties.

A man was found outside the residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head; he was transported to a hospital where he later died. Yellowstone County Interim Sheriff Kent O’Donnell confirmed that law enforcement has identified all individuals involved, including the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the exact cause of the fire and the motive behind the shooting.
