Bryan Johnson diagnosed with incurable autoimmune gastritis

Tech billionaire and bio‑hacker Bryan Johnson, 48, announced on social media that he has been diagnosed with autoimmune gastritis (AIG), an incurable condition in which the immune system attacks the lining of his stomach. He described the disease as “my stomach is eating itself” and noted that it affects about 2‑5 percent of people, likely more because it can remain hidden.

Johnson, who spends roughly $2 million a year on his anti‑aging program Blueprint and aims to live to 160 years, said his low ferritin levels had been ignored for over a decade despite intensive health monitoring. He also has hypothyroidism diagnosed at age 21, which he manages with levothyroxine and Armour Thyroid. Endoscopic biopsies and blood tests in May confirmed early‑stage AIG, which can cause iron and vitamin B12 deficiencies, anemia, and a heightened risk of stomach cancer.

Standard medical care, Johnson noted, “concedes defeat” and offers only symptom management such as iron infusions and B12 injections. Nonetheless, he pledged to continue researching a cure, planning extensive immune‑cell profiling, repeat biopsies, and sharing all data publicly.
