Billionaire wealth reaches record $15.1 trillion in 2025

The global billionaire population grew by 8.2 percent in 2025, reaching a total of 3,795 individuals, according to a report by wealth intelligence firm Altrata. This represents the strongest annual growth in five years. The collective wealth of these individuals rose by 12.8 percent to a record $15.1 trillion.

A primary driver of this increase was the surge in artificial intelligence (AI) investments. Altrata found that among 150 major companies contributing to billionaire wealth, those making meaningful AI investments outperformed non-AI investors by 23 percent in market capitalization growth between 2024 and 2025. Other contributing factors included double-digit growth in equities and rate cuts by major central banks.

The report also highlighted extreme wealth concentration. A group of 29 “superbillionaires” with fortunes exceeding $50 billion each now control $4.1 trillion, which accounts for 27 percent of the total global billionaire wealth. This is a significant increase from 2017, when the top 10 individuals accounted for only 7.2 percent of the total.
