Billy Crystal expresses loss of faith following home destruction and death of Rob Reiner

Comedian Billy Crystal has stated that he has lost trust in God following a series of devastating personal losses. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the 78-year-old actor cited the destruction of his longtime Pacific Palisades home in the January 2025 wildfires and the death of close friend Rob Reiner as primary reasons for his loss of faith.

Crystal and his wife, Janice, had lived in their Pacific Palisades residence for 46 years before it was destroyed. He also reflected on the passing of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, who were killed in December 2025. Crystal noted that he had seen Reiner at a holiday party just one night before the tragedy.

Crystal is processing these experiences through his new Broadway production, ‘860’, named after his former home's street address. The show recreates his home office and explores themes of family, career, memory, and grief.
