Biloxi Mayor proposes three-mill tax increase
Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich has requested that the Biloxi City Council consider a three-mill increase to address rising operating costs. The proposal aims to bridge the gap between city revenues and expenses, which have grown faster than income in recent years.
While Biloxi’s eight casinos generated over $1 billion in gross gaming revenue last year, the city only receives a portion of the taxes generated. Of the approximately $133 million paid to the State of Mississippi, about $24 million is returned to Biloxi’s general fund. The mayor noted that the city has not increased its millage rate in more than 25 years and stated the adjustment is necessary to maintain essential services such as public safety and infrastructure.
