Indonesian legislatures focus on regional fiscal oversight and public accountability

Indonesian legislative bodies are focusing on regional development, fiscal management, and public accountability. During the 81st anniversary of the DPR RI, Speaker Puan Maharani emphasized that the parliament remains open to public criticism, viewing it as a democratic tool to align legislative work with the actual needs of the people.

At the national level, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto urged district-level regional legislatures (DPRD) to improve their oversight capabilities, shifting focus from mere budget absorption to measurable community impact. This follows discussions with the Association of All Indonesian District DPRD (ADKASI) regarding the 2027 State Budget (RAPBN), where members supported fairer revenue sharing (DBH) for resource-rich regions.

Regional legislatures are also addressing specific fiscal challenges. In West Java, the DPRD is scrutinizing a proposed Rp 3.4 trillion loan amid declining regional revenue. In Central Sulawesi, officials are pressing the central government to settle approximately Rp 900 billion in unpaid mining revenue sharing. Meanwhile, in South Sulawesi, local officials are integrating community aspirations gathered through recess periods into future development planning.
