Bimekizumab shows three-year stability in Psoriatic Arthritis patients

New data from a large-scale study program indicates that the monoclonal IgG1 antibody Bimekizumab can provide sustained disease control for patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) over a three-year period. According to evaluations by the manufacturer UCB, this long-term stabilization occurs regardless of whether patients are biologics-naive or have previously failed treatment with TNF inhibitors.

The study program included three distinct approaches: BE OPTIMAL for bDMARD-naive patients, BE COMPLETE for those with prior TNF inhibitor failure, and the BE VITAL open-label extension study. Out of 1,112 randomized patients, 698 received a subcutaneous dose of 160 mg of Bimekizumab while 414 received a placebo.

By the third year of treatment, 59.2 percent of treated patients experienced a complete resolution of swollen joints, and 34.6 percent saw a complete disappearance of painful joints. Additionally, 54.8 percent achieved an ACR50 response. Significant improvements were also noted in enthesitis and dactylitis, with 56 percent of patients seeing a complete resolution of enthesitis and 68.6 percent seeing the complete reversal of pre-existing dactylitis.
