BIMSTEC member states meet in India to discuss counter-terrorism
India hosted the 11th meeting of the BIMSTEC Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime in New Delhi on September 28-29. Delegations from all member states—Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand—participated in the discussions.
Chaired by Suhel Ajaz Khan, Additional Secretary (Counter Terrorism) at the Ministry of External Affairs, the meeting addressed both traditional and emerging non-traditional security threats within the BIMSTEC region. Participants worked to develop recommendations to improve regional cooperation and collaboration.
Specific areas of focus included reports from various sub-groups regarding human trafficking, the prevention of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, anti-money laundering, combating the financing of terrorism, legal and law enforcement issues, and efforts to counter radicalization.
