Binance to Halt EU Services After Missing MiCA License Deadline
Binance announced that it will stop providing crypto‑asset services to customers in the European Union from 1 July 2026 because it failed to obtain a MiCA (Markets in Crypto‑Assets) licence before the regulatory deadline. The exchange withdrew its licence application from the Hellenic Capital Market Commission in Greece after no formal decision was reached and said it will seek authorisation in another EU member state, with France being mentioned as a possible avenue.
Customers in France, Italy, Poland and Spain received emails instructing them on how to withdraw or transfer their assets. Binance stressed that all user funds remain safe and can be withdrawn at any time, but new user onboarding and trading functions will be halted across the bloc.
Regulators have highlighted Binance’s past compliance issues, including a US $4.3 billion money‑laundering fine and ongoing investigations in France, which have contributed to the licensing hurdles. The company maintains that it is not abandoning Europe and plans to obtain a MiCA licence in the coming months, while competitors such as Coinbase and Bitpanda are positioning themselves to capture the displaced market share.
