Binance Suspends EU Services After MiCA Transition Deadline
The European Union’s Markets in Crypto‑Assets (MiCA) transition period ended on 1 July 2026, requiring all crypto‑service providers to hold a valid CASP licence or cease operations for EU customers. By the end of June, roughly 244 licences were registered out of about 3,000 previously active firms. Binance withdrew its Greek licence application on 24 June and has halted new user registrations and several services in France, Italy, Poland and Spain while assuring users that funds remain accessible. The exchange plans to submit a new licence request through France. The regulatory rollout has proved longer and costlier than anticipated, prompting some smaller projects to look elsewhere, such as Canada.
