Binational Race San Diego-Tijuana connects border communities
The third annual Binational Race San Diego-Tijuana took place on October 25, 2026, bringing together over 4,500 runners from 11 countries, including participants from the United States and Mexico. The event featured competitive categories of 21.1, 12, and 10 kilometers, starting near the Las Américas Premium Outlets in San Ysidro, California, and crossing the international border via the San Ysidro-El Chaparral port of entry to finish at the lighthouse in Playas de Tijuana.
Baja California’s Secretariat of Tourism utilized the event to promote the state's seven tourist destinations through the “Baja California es para ti” pavilion. The initiative showcased regional gastronomy, culture, and local products such as craft beer, wine, and dates. To encourage tourism, the state introduced the Explore Baja and Sé Turista en tu Baja California digital platforms, which offer residents and visitors access to various promotions and discounts.
Beyond the athletic competition, the race served as a cultural bridge, fostering ties between neighboring communities in Southern California and Baja California. Participants shared personal stories of heritage and identity, highlighting the cross-border connection through the shared experience of the run.
