Steve Irwin's family honors legacy 20 years after death

The family of Steve Irwin, the world-renowned Australian wildlife expert known as the ‘Crocodile Hunter’, is marking the 20th anniversary of his death. Irwin died on September 4, 2006, at age 44, after being fatally struck by a stingray barb while filming a documentary near the Great Barrier Reef.

His wife, Terri, and children, Bindi and Robert, have shared emotional tributes on social media. Bindi, now 28, described her father as a ‘superhero’ and noted that while she once thought his legacy was solely wildlife conservation, she now realizes his true legacy is ‘love – for our planet and for each other.’

Robert, 22, continues his father’s mission through his work at Australia Zoo and his media presence. He highlighted a core lesson from Steve: to treat every living being with the same level of care, appreciation, and respect one would wish to receive. The family continues to manage Australia Zoo and the Wildlife Warriors organization, upholding Steve’s lifelong commitment to animal protection.
