Binga mining operations generate US$5 million in taxes

In Zimbabwe, mining operations in the Binga District generated US$5 million in taxes during 2025, according to information provided to Parliament. The revenue, which includes corporate income tax, mineral royalties, and withholding taxes, was collected from three mining operations.

During parliamentary questioning regarding how mineral wealth contributes to local development in the Zambezi Valley, Deputy Minister of Finance David Mnangagwa clarified that mining revenue is not ring-fenced for the district. Instead, funds are remitted into the Consolidated Revenue Fund to support national development programs.

For the Binga region specifically, the 2026 National Budget has allocated ZiG 167.9 million to the Binga Rural District Council through intergovernmental fiscal transfers. Planned local projects include the construction of a teaching and learning centre, district registry offices, and a control tower on Lake Kariba to manage vessel traffic and safety.
