Binghamton University study links screenshots to weaker human memory
New scientific research suggests that the habit of taking screenshots may negatively impact human memory. A study published in the journal Memory & Cognitions, conducted by researchers at Binghamton University, examined how digital documentation affects cognitive retention.
Through seven experiments involving 892 participants, researchers found that individuals who took screenshots of images remembered significantly fewer details than those who simply viewed the images. The study indicated that creating a digital memory of an event or object can lead to a loss of actual memory regarding the subject or situation.
