Bingöl launches truffle cultivation and earthquake risk mapping projects

Authorities in Bingöl, Turkey, have signed protocols for two distinct technical support projects aimed at regional development and safety.

The first project, supported by the Fırat Development Agency, focuses on identifying truffle mushroom potential within the oak forests of the region, particularly in the Yedisu district. The initiative includes field studies to evaluate ecological conditions and training for local stakeholders on sustainable harvesting methods. If successful, the project aims to establish infrastructure for controlled truffle cultivation to boost the local economy.

The second project involves using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to examine the city's building stock. Given Bingöl's high earthquake risk, this study will assess the physical condition of buildings and record the data into a geographic information system. This mapping is intended to guide future urban renewal efforts and disaster preparedness measures.
