Bintan Island emerges as Southeast Asian luxury tourism hub

Bintan Island and the surrounding Riau Archipelago in Indonesia are emerging as a significant hub for luxury island tourism in Southeast Asia. Long utilized as a weekend destination for residents of Singapore, the region is seeing increased investment from major international hotel groups.

Key developments include the expansion of private island escapes like Nikoi Private Island and its sister property, Cempedak, established by Andrew Dixon. Recent additions to the island's northern coast include the Movenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon, which features 408 rooms and access to golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Ian Baker-Finch, and the Hotel Indigo Bintan Lagoi Beach, which opened in October 2024.
