Biobío authorities seize 4 tons of meat during holiday inspections

During the Fiestas Patrias celebrations in the Biobío Province, health authorities conducted 185 inspections of local establishments and festive venues, resulting in 20 sanitary summaries. Mirna Gutiérrez, the provincial delegate for the Seremi de Salud, reported that 4,091 kilograms of meat products were seized, marking a nearly 600% increase compared to the previous year.

The primary cause for these seizures was the sale of expired products, which accounted for approximately 90% of the cases. Other violations included the sale of meat without proof of origin, lack of mandatory labeling, and products with altered sensory characteristics.

In a separate effort to manage holiday-related waste, the company Suralis issued a warning to the community to prevent debris from entering the sewage system. Operations Manager Marcelo Cofré noted that items such as disposable cups, cutlery, straws, skewers, and confetti can cause obstructions and overflows. Suralis also cautioned against the unauthorized opening of manhole covers to dispose of animal remains, a practice that poses sanitary risks and disrupts the network.
