Biobío health authorities activate protocols after student diagnosed with tuberculosis

Health authorities in the Biobío region of Chile have confirmed a case of tuberculosis in a 14-year-old secondary school student in Concepción. The diagnosis was made following the student's admission to the SAR Dr. Víctor Manuel Fernández on August 11 or 12.

The Seremi de Salud has activated sanitary protocols to manage the situation. This includes conducting health education sessions for teachers and parents, as well as tracing contacts. While intradomiciliary contacts have already undergone testing, authorities are now working to evaluate extradomiciliary contacts to rule out further contagion.

Due to the minor's age and medical privacy laws, the specific name of the educational institution has not been disclosed. Officials emphasized that the case is under control and that suspending classes at the school is not necessary, as established protocols are being strictly followed.
