Biobío region development strategy focuses on logistics and technology
Martín Zilic, president of Corbiobío, has outlined a strategic vision to transform the Biobío region into a major productive and logistical engine for southern Chile. Key proposals include enhancing international connectivity through port strengthening and the development of a bioceanic train.
Infrastructure priorities mentioned include a faster rail connection to Santiago and the construction of a third dock at ASMAR to advance high-tech shipbuilding. Additionally, the creation of a technological hub at Huachipato focused on advanced manufacturing is proposed to integrate industry and knowledge.
Beyond industrial growth, the vision emphasizes integral development, specifically calling for the establishment of a regional high-complexity health pole. This would include a 400 to 500-bed hospital specializing in critical areas such as neurosurgery and cancer, alongside a focus on sustainable industries like timber construction.
