Biobío region in Chile hosts carbon‑management workshops for businesses and municipalities

On July 22‑23, Chile’s Biobío region held a three‑day cycle of carbon‑management workshops organized by the Agency for Sustainability and Climate Change of Corfo (ASCC) together with the HuellaChile programme of the Ministry of the Environment. The events, conducted with the Industrial Fishermen Association of Biobío, CIDERE Biobío and the Association of Municipalities of the Biobío Region, brought together 67 participants from multisectoral organisations, industrial fishing companies and municipal officials representing 12 communes.

The first workshop introduced the HuellaChile platform and taught organisations how to quantify their organisational carbon footprint. A second, advanced session focused on six large industrial fishing firms, covering emission‑reduction strategies, carbon‑neutrality and product‑level carbon footprints. In a virtual third session, 31 municipal representatives received training on the communal carbon‑footprint module, platform operations and methods for compiling territorial emission inventories. Monserrat Jamett Leiva, sustainability manager of the Industrial Fishermen Association, called the advanced workshop “a very good instance to discuss initiatives that allow our partner companies to keep reducing their climate impacts.” Rabindranath Acuña, mayor of San Rosendo and president of the municipal environmental commission, highlighted the value of providing concrete tools that enable local governments to measure, plan and make evidence‑based decisions on climate action.
