Audit agencies investigate public fund irregularities across Latin America

Multiple oversight bodies in Latin America have launched investigations into the potential misuse of public funds across various sectors.

In Colombia, the Procuraduría General de la Nación is investigating the San Andrés Departmental Hospital following allegations of contract irregularities. Additionally, the Contraloría General de la República has identified a potential fiscal damage exceeding $694,000 million within the FOMAG health system for teachers, involving improper payments and late interest. A separate investigation is also underway regarding a coral reef recovery project in San Andrés, where a potential loss of over 3,000 million COP has been identified.

In Chile, the Contraloría General de la República reported irregularities in the Biobío Regional Government involving over $100 million in questionable travel expenses for officials between 2022 and 2024.

In Costa Rica, the Contraloría General de la República found widespread non-compliance in the Municipality of San Carlos regarding 211 exception-based purchases totaling 488 million colones, noting a lack of market studies and price justifications.

In Mexico, the Auditoría Superior de la Federación documented approximately 105.3 million pesos in unverified expenses during the administration of the former mayor of Juchitán de Zaragoza.
