Biodiversity and birdwatching events scheduled for October 17

Various biodiversity and birdwatching events are scheduled for October 17 in Argentina and Colombia.

In San Juan, Argentina, the third edition of the Festival de las Aves will take place at Parque Provincial Presidente Sarmiento. Organized by the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development, the event includes bird observation workshops, painting and kite-flying contests for children, and guided tours of the wetlands. The program also features a bird release and the destruction of cages and traps to promote conservation.

In Cúcuta, Colombia, the Los Olivos Life Park is preparing for its second October Big Day, a global scientific initiative by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The park has reported a significant increase in documented biodiversity, with bird species rising from 63 to 86 in one year. Through partnerships with the University of Pamplona, the park has also documented various mammals and bat populations, establishing itself as a key urban ecosystem in Norte de Santander.
