Biographical notes released for Bishop Tomaso Giannelli
New biographical details have been documented regarding Monsignor Tomaso Giannelli, who served as the Bishop of Termoli from 1753 to 1768. Giannelli left a significant historical record, including three pastoral visits that provide unique insights into the Adriatic diocese, as no records of visits from his predecessors exist in the Diocesan Historical Archive.
His contributions include five ‘ad limina’ reports sent to Rome and a manuscript regarding the historical memories of Termoli and its diocese. Giannelli is also noted for his association with the discovery of the remains of San Basso, the patron saint of Termoli, in 1761. Born in Vitulano in 1713, he studied law at Sapienza University in Rome before being ordained a priest in 1738.
