Biologica Environmental Services Ltd. relocates to Esquimalt, BC

Biologica Environmental Services Ltd., Canada’s largest taxonomy laboratory founded in 1994, employs 34 scientists, technicians, taxonomists and support staff. The lab provides full‑service aquatic taxonomy for environmental monitoring programs across the country, identifying algae, zooplankton and invertebrates in freshwater, marine and estuarine habitats. Its analyses support industries such as mining, oil and gas, municipal water quality, pulp and paper, and aquaculture, and it contributes to environmental impact assessments, risk assessments and ongoing monitoring projects.

The company is moving from its Victoria location to Esquimalt after a need for industrial zoning, additional office space and a dedicated laboratory. President Tara Macdonald said the move offers an operational fit, better transit‑accessible and cycling‑friendly location, and a “natural fit” within Esquimalt’s marine community. She added that she looks forward to becoming part of the vibrant Esquimalt community.
