Biological age varies across different human organs

Research indicates that biological age can vary significantly between different organs and systems within the same individual. A study published in Nature analyzed 5,676 adults to build aging models for eleven different organs and systems. The findings revealed that nearly one in five people exhibited a profile that was markedly older in a single specific organ compared to their chronological age.

Biological age is estimated using algorithms known as biological clocks, which analyze data such as DNA, proteins, clinical exams, or medical imaging. One promising method involves measuring proteins in blood plasma that are associated with specific tissues to identify signs of aging. This approach helps identify specific vulnerabilities that a single chronological age might overlook.
