Biological and genetic factors influencing penile size

Scientific research and genetic studies provide insight into the biological factors influencing penile size and development. Genetics play a role, but there is no single ‘size gene’; rather, it is a complex interaction of multiple genes and hormonal factors, particularly androgens like testosterone, during fetal development and puberty.

A study presented at the European Association of Urology congress in Milan examined the distinction between ‘growers’ (those whose penis increases in length by more than 56 percent during erection) and ‘showers’ (those with an increase of less than 31 percent). The research, involving 225 men measured via ultrasound, found that 51 percent of participants fell into a middle ‘grey zone’ between these two categories. While ‘showers’ tended to have longer penises in a flaccid state, the difference in size during erection was not statistically significant between the groups.
