Biological research identifies magnetic fields and AMPK enzyme as key longevity factors

Recent biological studies have highlighted new factors influencing longevity and cellular health. Researchers at the University of Nottingham found that isolating fruit flies from Earth's magnetic field significantly impacts their health, lifespan, and mitochondrial function. The study suggests that the magnetic field may be a critical part of the biological environment to which life has evolved.

In a separate breakthrough, scientists from the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences, Imperial College London, and the University of Cologne demonstrated that activating the AMPK metabolic enzyme can extend the lifespan of various organisms, including yeast, worms, and flies, by up to 25 percent. By using a specific drug named 991 to directly target AMPK, researchers were able to trigger anti-aging effects by regulating how cells manage energy levels.
