Biologische Station Kreis Recklinghausen expands inclusive nature access
The Biologische Station Kreis Recklinghausen is expanding its outdoor facilities in Dorsten-Lembeck through the project ‘Inclusive Nature Experience in the Station Garden’. The initiative aims to improve access to nature for individuals with diverse needs.
Supported by approximately 39,000 euros from the Naturfonds of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe, the project includes the installation of tactile models of amphibians and reptiles, information boards using simplified language, and orientation plans to assist people with visual impairments. The station was recently recertified as a barrier-free facility for people with mobility impairments and partially barrier-free for those with visual impairments.
The station garden also serves as an educational site for biodiversity, featuring a pond, a kitchen garden, an orchard meadow, and a dry stone wall to demonstrate how to promote wildlife in private gardens. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
