Biologist surprised by unexpected birth of nine puppies in motorhome

Uli Erfurth, a 64-year-old biologist from Holzkirchen, Germany, was surprised when his dog, Drina, gave birth to nine puppies in his motorhome while traveling in the Basque Country.

Erfurth, an experienced naturalist who has spent significant time in Antarctica, was working on a book when the unexpected labor began. Neither Erfurth nor a veterinarian had previously realized the dog was pregnant; in fact, Drina had recently been placed on a diet after her pregnancy went unnoticed.

Eight of the nine puppies are reportedly seeking new homes starting this autumn.
