Biologists hold professional forum and launch Citizen Science school in Italy

The “Biologi on the Road” itinerant training event, organized by the Order of Biologists of Puglia and Basilicata in collaboration with the National Federation of Orders of Biologists (FNOB), is concluding its 2026 edition with a final stage in Bari. The forum focuses on the evolving role of biologists, emerging trends, and professional development.

A significant outcome of the event is the official signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish the Permanent School for Citizen Science and Sustainability Education (CiSES). Based in Taranto, the school is a collaborative project involving the Fondazione Italiana Biologi, Jonian Dolphin Conservation ETS, and various national and regional biological orders. The initiative aims to foster dialogue between citizens and institutions by promoting active public involvement in environmental monitoring and scientific research.

The program also addresses recent legislative updates, specifically the Council of Ministers' approval of modifications to DPR 328/2001. These changes are intended to provide greater legal certainty for biologists operating in health, environmental, and general sectors, facilitating better collaboration with other healthcare professions.
