Biom Association launches pastoralism photography competition
The Biom Association, in collaboration with Fotoklub Split, has launched a photography competition titled ‘Putovima pastira i pašnjaka’ (Paths of Shepherds and Pastures). The contest focuses on pastoralism, a traditional and sustainable method of livestock farming that supports biodiversity, maintains pastures, reduces fire risks, and increases landscape resilience to climate change.
The competition is held in anticipation of the United Nations declaring 2026 as the International Year of Pastures and Pastoralism. Organizers are seeking photographs that depict pastoralism as a living practice, whether in Croatia or elsewhere in the world. Requested subjects include grazing scenes, herd movements, the daily work of shepherds, and landscape details such as shepherd huts, watering holes, and traditional livestock paths.
Open to both professional and amateur photographers, participation is free. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entries: €700 for first place, €500 for second, and €300 for third.
