Biomass heating subsidies to reopen in November
Applications for subsidies to purchase biomass heating systems or heat pumps will reopen on November 2. The boiler replacement subsidy program, managed via the Sanierungsoffensive online portal, was previously paused after the initial 360 million euro fund was exhausted in mid-July.
Due to high demand, the available subsidy rates have been reduced. Applicants can now receive up to 6,000 euros for switching from fossil fuel systems to biomass heating, and 4,000 euros for biomass local heating connections. This is a decrease from previous amounts, which reached up to 8,500 euros for central wood heating and 6,500 euros for local or district heating.
According to the Austrian Biomass Association, approximately 53,000 households have already transitioned from oil and gas to climate-friendly alternatives. Applications that were not successful due to the earlier funding pause can be reconsidered starting November 2.
