Biometric firms confront deepfake surge, promote injection‑attack detection solutions
Generative AI is enabling realistic synthetic faces and videos that can bypass traditional biometric verification, prompting industry experts to warn that deepfake fraud is no longer a future threat but an emerging reality. Attackers can now inject synthetic media directly into verification workflows, rendering visual liveness checks ineffective.
To address the rising risk, providers of biometric injection‑attack detection (IAD) are advocating for new standards and solutions. A forthcoming webinar on June 25 will feature vendors Mitek, Innovatrics and BixeLab, along with analyst Alan Goode, who will discuss the threat landscape, differentiate IAD from presentation‑attack detection, and review findings from the 2026 Injection Attack Detection Market Report. The report forecasts more than 300 million synthetic‑identity attacks by 2028, and governments are beginning to embed IAD requirements into identity‑verification systems.
Stakeholders are urged to shift focus from detecting manipulated visual cues to verifying the authenticity of the source device and the media pipeline, as deepfake technology continues to outpace conventional detection methods.
