Biometrics industry expands to combat AI-powered identity fraud

The biometrics and digital identity market is expanding as organizations seek to combat increasingly sophisticated AI-powered identity fraud. Attackers are now utilizing synthetic media, including AI-generated faces, manipulated videos, and voices, to bypass traditional identity checks during remote authentication and account registration.

To counter these threats, liveness detection systems are being deployed to verify that a physical person is present during biometric interactions. These systems analyze signals such as facial movement, texture, depth, and lighting to distinguish genuine users from artificial representations or presentation attacks.

Industry trends indicate a shift toward continuous digital trust. While Know Your Customer (KYC) systems address initial onboarding, there is a growing need for deepfake detection and identity assurance post-login to protect against agentic AI and social engineering. This demand is driving increased investment in digital identity infrastructure across financial services, government, and social media sectors.
