Biomi begins human trials for multidrug-resistant bacteria treatment BM111

Biomi has completed the first patient dosing for BM111, a candidate drug designed to treat multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. The clinical trial aims to evaluate the safety and decortication effects of the treatment by regulating intestinal microbiota.

BM111 is a Live Biotherapeutic Product (LBP) composed of a specific combination of four bacterial strains. Unlike fecal microbiota transplantation, this method allows for controlled strain composition and manufacturing processes. The study focuses on patients carrying Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) and Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CPE).

The development of BM111 is a result of an open innovation collaboration between Biomi and Celltrion. Following Biomi's selection for the Seoul BioHub-Celltrion Open Innovation Program in 2024, the two companies have collaborated on strain discovery, functional verification, and preclinical evaluation. Celltrion has provided investment and technical support throughout the process.
