BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin sells 149,500 shares in September
BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin has executed multiple stock sales throughout early September. Between September 3 and September 10, Sahin sold a total of 149,500 shares in several tranches at prices ranging from approximately $96.31 to $103.52 per share.
These transactions were conducted under a pre-arranged Rule 10b5-1 trading plan, which allows insiders to schedule trades in advance to avoid conflicts of interest. Following these sales, Sahin’s direct holdings in the company decreased from over 858,000 shares to approximately 688,209 shares.
In conjunction with these insider trades, BMO Capital downgraded BioNTech from ‘Outperform’ to ‘Market Perform’ on September 8, reducing its price target from $128 to $105. Analysts cited the erosion of the Comirnaty business, ongoing inventory reduction in Germany, and a lack of de-risking data for the antibody candidate Pumitamig before 2028 as key factors for the downgrade.
