BioNxt Solutions moves semaglutide oral film into active development with Germany’s Gen‑Plus
Vancouver‑based BioNxt Solutions Inc., a bioscience company specializing in oral dissolvable film (ODF) drug delivery, announced that its semaglutide ODF program has entered the active pharmaceutical development phase. The effort is being carried out in partnership with German drug‑development firm Gen‑Plus GmbH.
The program targets a sublingual thin‑film formulation of semaglutide, the GLP‑1 active ingredient used in obesity, metabolic‑disorder and type‑2‑diabetes treatments. BioNxt aims to create a needle‑free, portable delivery option that could improve patient adherence as GLP‑1 therapies become more mainstream. Development is planned for six to nine months and will focus on formulation work, analytical method creation, compatibility testing and proof‑of‑concept studies, with semaglutide API expected later in the year.
CEO Hugh Rogers said the milestone "advances our semaglutide program into active pharmaceutical development" and expands BioNxt’s platform beyond earlier ODF work such as its Cladribine program, positioning the company for broader opportunities in the rapidly growing GLP‑1 market.
