BioPark Regensburg announces leadership transition

BioPark Regensburg GmbH is undergoing a leadership transition as Dr. Thomas Diefenthal steps down after nearly 30 years of managing the life sciences cluster. He is succeeded by Dr. Ilja Hagen, who has served as the cluster manager for the past 10 years.

Since its operational start in 1999, the BioPark has expanded from a single-person operation into a major hub with three buildings totaling 18,000 square meters. The cluster's focus has grown from biotechnology to include pharmaceuticals, medical technology, diagnostics, and the broader healthcare economy.

During the first 25 years, the region saw significant growth. The number of life science companies increased from 23 in 1999 to 72 by 2025, with employment rising from approximately 400 to 5,745. Total investments in the cluster's development reached 839 million euros by 2024, including 242 million euros in venture capital.
