Bioparque Pantanal provides permanent home for rescued circus snakes
Two snakes, a boa named Rachel Carson and an albino python named Capitu, have been permanently relocated to Bioparque Pantanal in Campo Grande, Brazil, following their rescue from a circus three years ago.
The rescue took place in Amambai, Mato Grosso do Sul, after authorities intervened in a circus performance. The circus owner was fined approximately 7,875 euros (47,380 Brazilian reais) and faced legal proceedings for the illegal possession of wild animals and the unauthorized importation of exotic species.
Because the snakes spent many years in human environments, they lost the natural skills required to survive in the wild. Consequently, experts determined that releasing them into their natural habitat would not be safe. They now live under the constant supervision of a specialized team at the Bioparque, where they are occasionally allowed supervised walks to experience natural light and various environmental stimuli.
