Biopharmaceutical leaders call for European investment and AI oversight

At the La Toja Forum, Fina Lladós, president of Farmaindustria, called on Europe and Spain to provide clear signals and regulatory support for the biopharmaceutical industry. Lladós warned that current regulatory decisions regarding where research and production occur will directly impact future patient treatments. She noted that innovation and supply chains have become strategic national assets, but cautioned that Europe is losing ground in the global biopharmaceutical innovation race.

During the Farmaforum event in Madrid, experts also addressed the impact of artificial intelligence on the sector. While AI offers significant potential to accelerate drug discovery and clinical trials, specialists warned it also accelerates reputational crises. Risks identified include deepfakes, identity theft, cybersecurity failures, and the potential for AI to disseminate erroneous information about medications if trained on unreliable sources. Experts emphasized the necessity of human oversight and ethical frameworks to manage these technological advancements.
