BioSpecNet launches 800 MHz NMR spectrometer in Milan

The BioSpecNet scientific consortium, comprising Italfarmaco Spa and the G. Ronzoni Institute of Chemical and Biochemical Research, has launched a new 800 MHz Bruker Avance Neo nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer in Milan.

This instrument is the first of its power level to operate within the Italian private sector and is the first of its kind in Northern Italy. Currently, Italy hosts only three other 800 MHz NMR systems, all located in public universities, while Europe has just over 60.

The technology allows for the detailed study of complex biomolecules, such as proteins and polysaccharides, by mapping their atomic structure without destroying them. This capability is expected to accelerate research and development for new medical therapies by helping scientists understand how drugs interact with biological targets.
