Biotech sector sees surge in AI-driven medical technology funding
Several biotechnology and healthcare companies have announced significant funding rounds and infrastructure expansions to advance AI-driven medical technologies.
Rivercell, a Paris-based startup, raised $25 million in seed funding to develop an AI Virtual Cell platform. The company aims to create a “world model of the cell” to predict how cells respond to drugs and genetic changes, potentially reducing the need for physical laboratory experiments.
Healthleap secured over $38 million to expand its AI software, which analyzes electronic health records to identify high-risk inpatients. The platform has demonstrated success in screening for malnutrition and delirium, improving diagnostic speed and hospital efficiency.
Other notable developments include WhiteLab Genomics securing $26 million to expand its AI-designed gene delivery assets, and Sensible Biotechnologies raising $47 million to scale its mRNA technology platform. Additionally, Vitalant launched a new cell-based analytics lab in Phoenix to support developers of allogeneic cell and gene therapies.
