Biotech sector updates: Lineage Cell and Latigo Biotherapeutics
Lineage Cell Therapeutics reported progress on its cell-therapy pipeline during its Q2 2026 earnings call. The company is focusing on its "Lineage 3.0" strategy, which utilizes the AlloSCOPE manufacturing platform to develop scalable, off-the-shelf allogeneic cell therapies for conditions such as corneal disease, Type 1 diabetes, and hearing loss. CEO Brian Culley noted that the platform aims to reduce production costs to hundreds of dollars per dose. Preclinical testing for the COR1 corneal endothelial cell therapy program is expected to begin imminently.
Separately, Latigo Biotherapeutics secured $346 million in IPO funding to advance its pipeline of non-opioid pain medications. The company's lead candidate, LTG-001, targets the NaV1.8 sodium channel to manage pain without the addiction risks associated with opioids. LTG-001 is preparing for Phase 3 testing following Phase 2b results that showed statistically significant pain reduction in patients recovering from abdominoplasty compared to a placebo.
