Bioxodes and Neurocrine Biosciences announce progress in neurological clinical trials

Bioxodes has reported positive phase 2a results from the BIRCH trial regarding its investigational therapy, BIOX-101. Presented at the World Stroke Congress in Seoul, the data indicates that BIOX-101, a recombinant protein with anti-neutrophil activity, demonstrated safety and efficacy when added to standard care for patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. The treatment showed potential in reducing secondary brain injury by normalizing hematoma expansion and perihematomal edema growth, while also stabilizing neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratios.

Separately, Neurocrine Biosciences has initiated a Phase 2 clinical trial for NBI-567, a treatment targeting Alzheimer's disease. The randomized, double-blind study will enroll 135 adults aged 50 to 85 with mild to moderate cognitive impairment. The trial aims to evaluate the efficacy of NBI-567, which activates M1 and M4 muscarinic receptors to support learning and memory, as an addition to existing acetylcholinesterase inhibitor treatments. The study is expected to reach primary completion by May 2028.
